Learn all about the Battle of Hastings in 1066 at the excellent Battle Abbey in Sussex, situated on the actual battle site. There is plenty to see and do at Battle Abbey, making it the perfect day out for families. Take a walk around the atmospheric ruins of the abbey, where an optional audio tour brings the great battle to life. Stand on the very spot where King Harold is said to have died and check out the fascinating exhibition and interactive displays that tell the story of the battle in the visitor's centre. The Abbey Museum contains a selection of historical items found during the excavations of the site and The Discovery Centre, open at weekends and school holidays provides plenty of historical fun for the children. Take a break in the Battle Abbey café and enjoy light lunches made from locally sourced ingredients and visit the well stocked shop for some souvenirs of your visit. Battle Abbey is one of Britain's most important historical locations and with so much to see and do, brings history to life in a fun and interesting way.
