The Foragers Pub
3 Stirling Place, Hove BN3 3YU
Local pubs simply don't get any better than The Foragers Pub, a seriously good Hove pub serving superb food using local ingredients. The brainchild of ex-Groucho Club manager Paul Hutchison, the pub was formerly a pretty average Hove boozer, but has now been transformed into a good, clean honest pub where you can quite equally enjoy a good pint of Harvey's best as sample some top class food, courtesy of the highly accomplished pub kitchen. As well as using a team of foragers who comb East Sussex in search of wild chervil, wood sorrel and radish leaves, Paul also sources local seafood, mushrooms and Sussex-reared beef. It's time and place that writes the menu here, from beetroot, spinach and roasted garlic risotto, to St George's and Judas Ear mushroom pudding with puy lentils, pennywort and bitter cress, and local line-caught halibut with kohlrabi, wild yarrow, watercress and pink fir potatoes. The menu at The Foragers is nicely complimented by a compact, but well selected wine list most of which are well under the £20 mark. The Foragers comes with none of the frills normally associated with gastro pubs in this neck of the woods..... simple but effective service, paper napkins and wines that you pour yourself, but the product is fantastic, full of integrity and well priced. If you just want good, down to earth, but high quality food, a good pint or glass of wine and a relaxed atmosphere, then The Foragers is definitely the place for you.
